Gicherori, a washing station located not far from Embu in Central Kenya, benefits from the region's rich volcanic soil and favorable microclimate with ample rainfall.
Along with other washing stations such as Kathakwa, Dundori, Gikirima, and Ngerwe, Gicherori is part of the Kibugu Farmers Cooperative, which supports around 1,100 local farmers.
The washing station has recently installed new equipment designed to conserve water by recirculating it.
After depulping, the coffee is left to ferment overnight. It is then washed, soaked in clean water, and placed on African beds to dry. The drying time varies depending on the weather, typically lasting from 7 to 15 days.
